MySQL Developer Meeting in Heidelberg

Next week many MySQL AB developers are at a meeting in Heidelberg, Germany. Some community members and some partner companies are invited to the meeting, too. I’ll attend this meeting for my employer, Mayflower. I hope I’ll get some pretty good and new insights for MySQL.

phpMyFAQ on a i5

The last couple of days I could test phpMyFAQ on an i5 server by IBM with the help of Zend and IBM. I had to commit some fixes and now Zend Europe is doing some research. I also fixed some other bugs for the next 2.0.4 release.

As you might noticed things are doing slowly on phpMyFAQ since some weeks. This circumstance will last some more weeks but I try to release a maintaince release every month as I did almost the last years. The next months I’ll attend the following conferences:

  • 20th/21st september: MySQL Developer Meeting in Heidelberg, Germany
  • 8th – 11th october: Zend Conference 2007 in San Francisco, USA
  • 4th – 7th november: International PHP Conference 2007 in Frankfurt/Main, Germany

Today I added the first new feature of phpMyFAQ 2.5: we switched from FPDF to TCPDF library for generating PDF files. TCPDF supports PHP 5 and UTF-8. We’re trying to port all translations to UTF-8 as well.

Today I fixed the annoying bug with lost users when using the French translation. I also added the Thai translation by Thanadon Somdee. Thank you very much, Thanadon!

I fixed some bugs today – after one week of doing nothing except travelling around here in Bavaria. phpMyFAQ 2.0.3 will be released within the next 2 weeks.

I fixed some minor bugs the last days but I was offline for two days because my DSL is broken after a lightning strike on friday. The 2.0.3 release is planned for august.

We fixed some bugs in both branches and ported the first classes from PHP4 to PHP5 in phpMyFAQ 2.5.0-dev. Please note that you need PHP 5.2.0 or later if you want to test the next version of phpMyFAQ. phpMyFAQ 2.0 will still be running on PHP 4.3.3+.

Like other projects phpMyFAQ will stop the support for PHP 4 on February 5, 2008. So phpMyFAQ 2.0 will be the last PHP 4 version, phpMyFAQ 2.1 2.5 will need PHP 5.2 and will be released next year.

We fixed a lot of bugs in the last days but we still have some open issues in the bugtracker. I think 2.0.2 will be released at the end of this month.

We fixed some bugs the last couple of days. We have some users that got logged out all the time but we’re still investigating what’s the problem on these installation.

The main focus on 2.0.2 will be performance tuning. We received no bugreports since the 2.0.1 release which is a good sign. The real development of new features in 2.1.0-dev will start in july.

We fixed more open issues the last two days like the really annoying bug when the permission level is set to “basic” and there’s no access to the records. We’re still working on these fixes the next days and release a new version as soon as possible.

We got a lot of positive feedback after the release of phpMyFAQ 2. Sadly we also got some error reportings and some of them are really annoying. Sorry for that. We had a headline in the IT news from Heise Newswicker, so now we have many new users. :-)
We’re working on the bugfixes for a new release the next two weeks.
