phpMyFAQ 2.6.8 Released!

The phpMyFAQ Team is pleased to announce phpMyFAQ 2.6.8, the “Laurent Fignon” release. We dropped the Oracle database support and added a new TinyMCE plugin for adding internal links by a suggest search. We also added a basic HTML5 powered administration backend and improved the setup and update functionality. The bundled TCPDF library was updated to version 5.6.000, the bundled TinyMCE editor component to version 3.3.8 and the bundled phpseclib to version 0.2.1. We also updated the Russian and the Portuguese translation. We fixed a XML rendering issue and many minor bugs.

This week we branched the new 2.7 branch from the current stable 2.6 branch. 2.7.0 will be the next major version of phpMyFAQ with a focus on a brand new user interface and some social improvements like better Facebook and Twitter integration. We changed the minimal PHP version for phpMyFAQ 2.7 to PHP 5.2.3. The current master branch was re-versioned to 3.0.0-dev and will need PHP 5.3, but it will take more than a year before you can see something here.

The phpMyFAQ Team would like to announce the availability of phpMyFAQ 2.6.7, the “Theo Albrecht” release. This release includes a complete refactored and unittested search backend, an improved pagination functionality and we fixed various problems with Microsoft SQL Server Driver for PHP. We also fixed some minor bugs.

Yesterday I finished the big refactoring/rewrite of the search backend. Now I’ll test the new code base and then release 2.6.7 asap.

Today I had a little bit of free time for refactoring because I was at home with a summer cold. The old search routines are now removed from our codebase and the new search classes are already committed. The code is also unittested but I think I’ll release a 2.6.7-beta before the final release of 2.6.7.

Some parts of the phpMyFAQ codebase are quite old because phpMyFAQ is almost 10 years old. Currently I’m working on the refactoring of the search component which hopefully will be part of phpMyFAQ 2.6.7. You maybe ask why I do this in the stable version and not in the master branch? The answer is quite simple: my spare time is limited so I will concentrate the next weeks and months on improve the 2.6 code base which will also be merged into the master branch for phpMyFAQ 2.7 and later.

The phpMyFAQ Team is pleased to announce phpMyFAQ 2.6.6, the “Heidi Kabel” release. This release includes a refactored database abstraction, fixes OpenLDAP authentication, fixes duplication of search results, fixes an issue with duplicate sitemap characters and some solution ID issues. We improved the glossary deletion workflowand updated the Brazilian Portuguese and Norwegian Bokmal translations. We also fixed some minor bugs.

The phpMyFAQ Team would like to announce the availability of phpMyFAQ 2.6.5, the “Ronnie James Dio” release. This release updates bundled TCPDF library to version 5.0.009 and TinyMCE editor component to version 3.3.5.1. We refactored OpenSearch plugin code base and fixed small update issues in update script, a missing language fallback issue in instant response, the user deletion in admin backend and a backup/restore bug. We updated the Polish, Russian and Thai translation. We also fixed some minor bugs.

This release adds experimental support for Microsoft SQL Server Driver for PHP and includes an improved FAQ record administration frontend and Sitemap titles. We updated the German, the Romanian and the Swedish translation. We also fixed some minor bugs.

The last couple of days I fixed some minor bugs in the 2.6 and 2.7 code base. I have to work a lot during my daily work and so the development of phpMyFAQ 2.7 slowed down. Today I added the experimental support for Microsofts SQL Server Driver for PHP which will reduce some problems with the old PHP MS SQL Server driver. We’ll release this new driver support with phpMyFAQ 2.6.4 the next days.

This release fixes various mail issues and improves links rewriting, sitemap for Chinese, Japanese and Korean content and the meta keyword handling. We updated Portuguese and French translation. This release fixes an update script issue, the display of Chinese, Japanese and Korean content in PDFs, some issues with RSS feeds and the broken Spanish translation. Due to a stupid bug added by myself during some tests for the 2.6.1 release I have to release phpMyFAQ 2.6.2 as soon as possible. Currently 2.0 and 2.5 users cannot upgrade with the update script included in the 2.6.1 package. Sorry for that. Beside this bug I fixed the Japanese, Korean and Chinese characters in the PDF exports with the help of some users in our forums.

This week was very good. We released phpMyFAQ 2.6 and got a lot of feedback after more than 1,000 downloads within the first 36 hours. Due to the big amount of feedback we also received a number of bugreports. We already fixed a lot of them, so expect a 2.6.1 the next two weeks. We also try to release a 2.5.7 maintainance release for phpMyFAQ 2.5 installations. phpMyFAQ 2.7 is under heavy development and currently very unstable because the changed already the complete category code base.

The phpMyFAQ Team would like to announce the availability of our new major version, phpMyFAQ 2.6.0, the “Sir Edmund Hillary” release. With this release we moved all language files to UTF-8 and added TCPDF as replacement for FPDF library. We also added support for TinyMCE translations, support for multi-language news, user adjustable template sets and styles, support plurals in translations, share on Facebook link, a rest/json API, secure login if SSL is available, FAQ entry dependent meta description, and experimental support for Microsoft Windows Web App Gallery. We improved the attachment functionality, the install script, the category view with description, the FAQ entry activation, the user administration, and the FAQ entry workflow. We removed the Docbook XML export and the Net_IDNA library. Finally, we updated the Greek, the Lithuanian, and the Japanese translation.

phpMyFAQ 2.6 branched

Today we added the new 2.6 branch in our repo and started the development with phpMyFAQ 2.7. phpMyFAQ 2.6.0 will be released the next days, so stay tuned!

We fixed some minor issues the last days and we’re now preparing the 2.6 release. So there won’t be a RC2 anymore. I also thinking about supporting 2.5 until the 2.7 release planned for july 2010.
